Iconic Guangzhou

Flower City Square

花城广场

Flower City Square sits in the heart of Guangzhou's Zhujiang New Town and is one of the city's best places for an evening walk. The huge public plaza is surrounded by gardens, fountains, and some of Guangzhou's most recognisable modern architecture. Beneath the square is an underground mall with shopping and dining options. Above ground, you'll find the flowing curves of the Zaha Hadid-designed Opera House, the Guangzhou Library with its layered stone facade resembling stacked pages, the striking red-and-black cube of the Guangdong Museum, and two enormous skyscrapers defining Guangzhou's skyline: the 100-storey IFC and the 530 metre CTF Finance Centre. This is a good place to slow down and wander. In the evening the area comes alive — locals walk with family, dance in groups, children play, people fly illuminated toys through the night sky, and the surrounding towers light up across the city. If you're visiting the Guangdong Museum, combining it with a stroll through Flower City Square is an easy recommendation. There is no need to rush. Take your time and simply message your driver when you're ready to continue.
